PPP(F)T

2008 November 20

Ok, I stretched my horizons this week.

Instead of buying what I WANTED, which was a nice pumpkin or sweet potato(e) pie and a bunch of pomegranates, I got out of my comfort zone and bought a “Pumpkin Pecan Praline Torte” at Trader Joe’s.

I don’t take sugar in my latte (neither one lump, nor two), so I allow myself something slightly sweet. Wash your face, brush your teeth, make latte. It used to include “turn on your computer,” but I rarely turn off The Precious theses days.

So, anyway, I have a three-word review for that thing I just stuck in my mouth : “PPPFT!   PPPFT!    PPPFT!”

If you’ve ever been to Ireland, you’ll know EXACTLY what the “F” stands for.

I hope to never subject my taste buds to such utter blandness again… Well, after I eat this thing or it grows moldy and I have an excuse to throw it away. I’m rooting for the mold.

Screw fashionable grocery stores with their alluring, but ultimately dissapointing confections!

I drive a Neon, and I’m goin’ to CostCo.

Meanwhile and more importantly, I got myself out of bed after 3 hours sleep for Seth Earley’s final JumpStart presentation this morning. What a fantastic ending to an amazing series! I feel so good about myself to attending each one!

Kevin Hawker was amazing. Both he and Uche Ogbuji (more on this amazing guy …from Cleveland, no less, later) really tied this whole “why do we give a hang about semantics” thing together in plain English (more or less) and put it all in perspective.

To paraphrase, my favorite anti-hero Riddick: It’s been a long time since I smelled brilliant.

(Cue image : shining Grail floating above a computer)

The last few days spent reconfiguring my huge database into little baby triplets, which is about 30% done, was so totally worth it. I KNEW, I just didn’t know WHY I knew. Now, I do.

$10 million dollars, please!!

Thanks to Uche, I was introduced to PURL.org, a service which I figured on doing myself (since I hadn’t seen anyone doing it outside of TinyUrl from years back)! I knew someone had to be doing it, it was so obvious. It’s sorta like openID meets semantic sally.

But, I’ll have to leave off figuring out if I can do it as well as they do, for down the road. In other words, once I get a team of really smart people to work with me and amaze some Angel Investor with what we can do with

$10 million dollars, please!!

it might make it to the planning stage. For now, I’ll just dig on their scene.

Other than that, while I continue to procrastinate about my Project Management exam, I found this great site called “Apartment Therapy.” Beautiful, pricey stuff. Rediscovered Swoogle and SemanticWeb.org, which I’ll go back to,–even though it’s built as a wiki. I HATE wikis.

Yesterday, I got FileFoyer.com up and running. It’s not perfect, but I’m going to ask everyone who sends me files to use it from now on. It’s based on a flash uploader I got from Tribulant Software.

There are prettier pieces out there, –but Tribulant gives you the .FLA and all the external scripts, so eventually, it’ll be a hunk a hunk a burnin’…file uploader.

All I have to do, yet, is add some scripting so that I get batch numbers and such out the back end. Sounds like it hurts, but it doesn’t. It’s all in how you code it. PHP as Metamucil.

Ooooh…just got an idea! And, just as quickly found out that I can’t escape my ADR roots. The folks who got pharp.com are in my field of dispute resolution. In Kenya:

Peace Building, Healing and Reconciliation Programme is an International Christian NGO registered in Kenya (Head Quarter) in Rwanda and Sudan. The organization was formed in 1994 as Peace and Reconciliation Ministries (PRM) an autonomous ministry under Medical Assistance Programme (MAP International) , Since 1998 the organization has been operating as an Independent NGO

Man, I ought to start a church! I’ve been threatening to do it for many years…and, if the funding for religious institutions continues, I might as well. There’s a religious bent to everything I do, it’s just not that type of religion. It’s more of the ClueTrain Manifesto type.

Yeah, I head about it years ago, but thought it was a pharpy “we’re the smartest guys in the room” kinda title, so I refused to read it. I guess I did see that website years ago, too, but thought it was much less interesting than it turns out to be today.

Hindsight means you’re looking at your own ass. Do you like what you see? I don’t,– that’s why I work sitting down!

Anyway, so, please: no more emails PDF and DOC files, thank you! There are much better and easier ways to send large documents!

I was going to buy into Upload Thingy, and support devs down the road–but why? I run my own server space! If you don’t run your own server space, it’s a cute service that has real value.

I considered it for a while even so, because it’s so cute. The price really is reasonable, (I’m just cheap),but I figured I could use that same cash to buy another domain or fund what? My own server space!!

So, back to my exam.

Actually, it’s mostly done, I just have to write it up. Instead of trying to learn an PM application to auto generate all the stuff, I’m going to do it by hand and pretend that I’m into slow food or something.

After all, I suspect there are lots of PMs still doing it this way on whiteboards, anyway. And, I do like drawing the little critical path boxes. So, I’ll indulge myself for the sake of getting this thing turned in today. It finally clicked around 4 AM, so I think I’ll get that part right.

2 days ahead of schedule. Bam!

That will leave me more time to laugh about Maureen Dowd’s new article and maybe watch Love Guru again.

It was MUCH funnier than Tropic Thunder. Baby Mama shouldn’t have been billed as a comedy. It was an interesting story, but it wasn’t at all funny. Im smelling an alternate ending with a 1/2 black baby in there somewhere. But, chances are no one wanted to see Amy Pohler doing it with anyone, much less the doorman, who apparently had nothing else to do downstairs, so he stayed in their business.

PPFT!

The only not-supposed-to-be funny movie in this week’s “$11 for 4 movies” treat this week is….Hunting Party. [snark]But then again, Richard Gere is headlining, so it may be funny afterall. [/snark]]
